4 a.m. Nudge

4 a.m. Nudge

For whatever reason, 4 a.m. is my brains time to wake up.

Trust me when I tell you, I have done everything I can to reprogram my internal alarm to a more user-friendly wake up time ~ but to no avail.

I do however, find it interesting what my first thought of the day is.

This morning I woke up feeling the need to make music.

That really isn’t as peculiar as it sounds.

I sit in my recliner with my Bible open and my guitar in my lap.

This “need” to make music is, I assume, a nudge from the Spirit.

This morning at 4 a.m. I found myself with my Bible open to Ephesians 5.

My guitar was softly picking the song, “Breathe”

"Breathe"
This is the air I breathe
This is the air I breathe
Your holy presence living in me

This is my daily bread
This is my daily bread
Your very word spoken to me

And I I'm desperate for you
And I I'm lost without you

This is the air I breathe
This is the air I breathe
Your holy presence living in me

This is my daily bread
this is my daily bread
your very word spoken to me

And I'm, I'm desperate for you
And I'm, I'm lost without you

And I'm desperate for you
And I'm, I'm lost without you.

I'm lost without you.

I'm lost without you.

I'm desperate for you.

I'm desperate for you..

I'm lost, I'm lost, I'm lost without you..
I'm lost without you

I'm desperate for you

I find the verse below interesting and thought provoking.

Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life.
Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit,
singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves,
and making music to the Lord in your hearts.
Ephesians 5:18-19 NLT

The heart of the verse seems to be a challenge to anything that wrestles control of your heart away from the Holy Spirit.

So how do you know when the Spirit is in control of your heart?

According to this verse, you will be moved by the Spirit to express the joy of the Lord in music.

Personally, I have found that there is a difference between singing in church and singing in my private quiet time with the Lord.

My heart can be in a rocky place at church ~ yet I can still sing in an effort to minister.

However, if my heart is in a rocky place at home in my quiet time with the Lord ~ singing is not an option until my relationship with God is in a healthy place.

So my challenge to you today is:
“Is the Spirit making music in your heart today?”

PRAYER:
“Lord, may the song of my heart ~ serve to glorify You.
And whatever musical talent I have ~ serve to magnify You.
May my heart-song ~ serve to focus on Your perfect attributes and character.
I invite your presence to draw close and be lifted up in worship.
May your Spirit guide through every measure so that I might be
an instrument of your peace.
Amen”
