High
School seniors graduate and enter the world with expectations of fun &
adventure.
College
graduates step out into the world expecting a career.
Newly Weds
enter marriage full of expectations.
Married
couples have baby’s and impose expectations on them.
Bosses
have expectations of their employees.
Employees
have expectations of their bosses.
VISA expects
you to pay your monthly bill.
Uncle Sam
expects you to pay your taxes.
You expect
McDonald’s to have the greatest breakfast ever.
You expect
your church to fill all your spiritual needs. You expect your pastor to explain God in simple terms in 30 minutes or less.
Do you
find it odd when Christians expect Unbelievers to ACT like Christians?
You expect
Google to conduct your searches in .03 seconds or less.
You expect
police officers to let you go with warnings.
You expect
God to forgive you of your sin.
You expect
others to quickly FORGIVE you when you offend them.
You expect
JUSTICE when others offend you.
Face it, “expectations”
are tricky.
Your
expectations DETERMINE your PERSPECTIVE.
And your
PERSPECTIVE determines your ATTITUDE.
And your
ATTITUDE determines your ACTIONS.
NOW, “What
does GOD expect of YOU?”
Face it,
YOU have YOUR expectation of what GOD expects from YOU.
But what
did you base your expectation ON?
Most
people superimpose their human Dad’s attributes & weakness over onto GOD.
Which
means that you think GOD wants the same things from you that your Dad
expected.
If your
Dad worked all the time and was gone a lot, then you expect GOD to be distant.
If your
Dad was a tough disciplinarian, then you expect GOD to rule with an iron fist.
My overall
objective here is simply to get you to examine your EXPECTATIONS.
Remember
this: GOD does NOT expect perfection
from you.
He is GOD
and He knows your heart, motives, and actions.
“the
Lord
has told you what is good,
and this is what he requires of you:
to do what is right, to love mercy,
and to walk humbly with your God.”
Micah
6:8and this is what he requires of you:
to do what is right, to love mercy,
and to walk humbly with your God.”
And just for kicks,
I am going to share another Bible Versewith you that most people are not familiar with:
“Make it your
goal to live a quiet life,
minding
your own business and working with your hands,
just as we instructed you before.”
1 Thessalonians 4:11
