KEY VERSE:

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you.

And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere 

          in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Acts 8-12 the church witnessing Judea, Samaria

Acts 13-28 the church witnessing to all the earth

The book of Acts tells us about the birth

  and growth of the Church ~ AD 61-63

REMEMBER:

The church is not a business

the church is a body

~ Man does not build the church ~

~ God builds the church ~

#1.  The Main Person of the Church (1:1-3)

v the main person of the church is Jesus

v if Jesus is not the main person of a church then it is NOT a true church

“God has put all things under the authority of Christ and has made him head over all things for the benefit of the church.” Ephesians 1:22 NLT

#2.  The Mighty Power of the Church (1:4-5)

v The Power of the Church is the Spirit

v 1:5 is a reference to Acts chapter 2

v READ: Acts 1:8

“And now you Gentiles have also heard the truth, the Good News that God saves you.  And when you believed in Christ, he identified you as his own by giving you the Holy Spirit, whom he promised long ago.” Ephesians 1:13 NLT

#3.  The Major Purpose of the Church (1:6-8)

v The #1 person of the church is the Savior

v The power of the church is the Spirit

v The purpose of the church is Souls

He replied, “The Father alone has the authority to set those dates and times,  

and they are not for you to know.” Acts 1:7 NLT

v The study of prophecy is not the church’s

   major purpose ~ what is the major

      purpose? ~ Acts 1:8 ~ Evangelism  

“You shall be my witnesses” is Jesus Christ’s  

                                                 expectation of you

v Acts 1:8 command starts in Jerusalem ~

               WHY? It was their home town

“I would love to tell you what I think of Jesus”

I would love to tell you what I think of Jesus                             

since I found in Him a friend so strong and true                       

I would tell you how He changed my life completely

He did something that no other friend could do
